The Pilanesburg Game Reserve is a really great reserve. It is not nearly the size of the Kruger and does not have anything like the variety of animals, birds etc, but it does have the big 5 and a lot of other animal life.
A major advantage is that it is about a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg and right next to Sun City so it is an enjoyable day trip.
Absolutely worth a visit.
