Monkey Valley Resort

“This is actually a coin toss between poor and terrible.”

The resort is in Noordhoek which is about 35kms / 22 miles from Cape Town.

The last time I stayed at this resort was 15 years ago now and it was wonderful.

What a pity they have allowed it to disintegrate to the basic ‘mess’ it is now.

The position is great with views of the beach and sea.

Firstly, the roads up the mountain to the cottages are very narrow and it is virtually impossible for 2 cars to bypass each other, so if there is a car coming down the road while you are going up, one of you has to reverse until you can find an alcove to pull into so that they can pass.

The ‘parking spaces’ for the cottages are only big enough for 1 car, so the others must park at the bottom and the occupants walk up.

Why golf carts, etc, are not used to ferry people is beyond logic.

The unit we stayed in was a double story and the upper floor had definitely been upgraded and was very good, however the downstairs was despicable. From very tired furniture to a microwave that had a broken hole in the inside top.

The bathroom was terrible. The windows did not close properly, the handles for the doors were about 0.75metre / 2 and a half foot above the ground.

The security system could not be plugged in.

There was only 1 towel for the 2 of us.

The fridge was, well why bother…

I could go on and on.

However the view was great.
