“It is a good Game Reserve, the amount of game and accessibility are great.”
Aquila is approximately 180 kms / 110 miles from Cape Town.
Firstly, the accommodation and facilities are good. However our fire place smoked into the room badly.
There are more than adequate facilities ranging from horse riding, quad bikes, walks etc.
The game rangers are amazing and go out of their way to ensure you see the game and give detailed explanations of each.
Although I do understand the necessity for the lions to be fenced off in this instance, their enclosure is far from adequate.
The quality of the food is extremely average for the cost of the accommodation.
We were initially placed in the bottom dining area, which I later found out was specifically for day visitors even though we had booked in for the weekend which was, shall we say acceptable. The bar facility there left a lot to be desired.
We did find on our second day there that there was a much nicer dining room, with a great bar upstairs, which we moved into with a fair amount of grumbling from the restaurant staff.
However the food was very average for the quality of the hotel and was very disappointing.
