Marriott’s Mai Khao Beach – Phuket

“Simply a stunning hotel resort.”

The Marriott Beach Resort is without a doubt one of the best beach resorts I have been to.

The apartments we were in in Block 42, were more than spacious. Two rooms with separate lounge and dining area and an outside balcony.

We were on the 4th floor which was great, overlooking the pool area.

Each room had its own TV with an additional TV in the lounge.

The main bedroom had a king sized bed with bathroom en suite with a big bath and separate shower.

The 2nd room had 2 beds with an attached bath room with bath and shower.

The kitchenette is more than adequate with a large fridge, microwave, stove hob and all necessities.

They will even put in an additional bed if you require.

The staff are amazing, and I don’t say that lightly, and go out of their way to help.

If you want anything they will provide it if they are able and will then contact you to ensure you are satisfied.

Thank you for all your help Kanitta, Carolina, and in fact everyone there.

The Turtle Creek shopping centre is adjacent to the hotel.

The restaurants there are good and not badly priced.

Thai Express is a great restaurant with amazing food.

They also have The Coffee Club, Bill Bentley’s Irish pub and a Swenson’s ice cream franchise.

The ‘supermarket’ is crazily expensive, so avoid it if you can.

Buy only the necessities there.

They have a big Tesco’s shopping Centre as well as a Makro about 25kms / 17miles away.

Be careful, Makro only accepts cash or Citibank cards. Not Visa or Mastercard or any others.

If you can, rent a car at the airport, the taxi’s are expensive.

If you are thinking of renting from Avis be very careful about what you sign and the charges. I had a terrible experience. The staff are arrogant, rude and simply could not give a damn.

The hotel bar, at the pool, charges virtually the same for drinks as all other places in the area.

Happy hour is from 16:30 – 18:30 when drinks are half price.

There is a coffee shop on the premises which serves good food and an amazing almond croissant as well as other pastries and bread.

If you wander down onto the beach, which is only about 300m/350 yards from the hotel (if you are lazy they have shuttles running at your convenience) and turn left and walk to the life guard flags down the beach, about 400m/450 yards, you will find a little ‘restaurant’ just up the bank, which is amazing.

The food is great, their BBQ fish stunning, and the prices fantastic. Don’t miss out.

The hotel arranges activities for the kids throughout the day and early evening.

The adults are also catered for with water sports, yoga classes for the ladies and a plethora of other activities.

If you wish, the hotel has downstairs rooms with private plunge pools at an extra charge of USD 50 per day, which is reasonable.

However unless you specifically want that privacy for some reason, rather don’t.

You will find that you are spending your day at the pool or on the beach anyway.
