“Really good restaurant.”
The Rose Cottage had been in Dullstroom, about 270kms / 170 miles from Sandton City / Johannesburg, probably ever since the town was proclaimed.
Dullstroom was a typical little country village with your basic 8 or so shops, a general dealer, butchery, Rose Cottage selling milk / bread, post office, pub etc until about 15 years ago.
Its’ major industry was myriad trout farms.
In about 1994 one or two companies decided to set up trout resorts and sell off time share.
About 5 years later every person and their sister decided that this was a likely boom town and everyone had to open “quaint” shops there.
That was when the travel companies decided, as Dullstroom was on the way to the Kruger National Park, approximately half way, this was the ideal spot to stop and have the tourists purchase “local” trinkets.
So the town has exploded with the normal attrition of shops opening and closing in these situations.
The Rose Cottage has not changed and their ‘home cooked’ meals, breads jams, creams etc are as great as always.
