“Good restaurants, but…”
When the Mugg & Bean restaurants started they were a new and different concept in Johannesburg.
They had number of different types of very good coffees which you were able to help yourself to from convenience ‘towers’ in the restaurants.
You paid a specific amount and thereafter could get yourself as much of the various coffees as you chose. Unfortunately this facility with all the differing coffees had been discontinued. Their food is also not nearly as good as it was. Pity.

“Restaurants have become really average.”
When the Mugg and Bean restaurants were first opened, about 10 years ago now, they were amazing.
There were about 8 different and really good coffees you could have from the dispenser in the middle of the restaurant, and as much as you wanted. (Although, let’s be honest, the average person would have a maximum of 2 cups). However it was a great touch. They also had a hot chocolate choice.
The food was great, not expensive and the portions were more than sufficient.
However over the years the franchises (and I admit I haven’t tried all of them) have lost it. There are a few coffee choices, the food is less than average, and prices on the high side.
The only great exception is the Mugg and Bean in Sandton City. It has remained great, with fantastic food.
